That might not seem like a huge increase but overall album sales, for instance, are down 18%, CD sales dipped by 19%. and digital downloads are down by 20%.
So what’s the album that made the difference in vinyl sales. It’s considered the best album of all time by many – certainly from the best band of all time – The Beatles. The album? Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club band. It was the fab fours 8th official studio album which just celebrated it’s 50th anniversary. The album was re-released in May as a double and single package including a new stereo remix of the album produced by Giles Martin – the son of Beatles producer George Martin. It sold 39,000 vinyl copies according to Vinyl Factory making it #1. in vinyl sales followed by sountracks to “La La Land” and “Guardians of the Galaxy.” Other notable catalog albums include Bob Marley and the Wailers, Legend at #4, The Beatles “Abbey Road” at 7, Prince’s “Purple Rain” at #8 and Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon” at 10.
