The singer’s body was found at his Paisley Park compound in Minnesota early this morning (April 21, 2016).
On April 15 his private plane had to make an emergency landing in Illinois. But he appeared at a concert the next day to assure his fans he was okay and a spokeman told TMZ that everything was fine. However there were signs that things were not right, the singer cancelled two recent shows due to health concerns.
He was born Prince Rogers Nelson in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His father was a pianist and songwriter and his mother was a jazz singer.
Prince released his first albun “For You” in 1978 but it wasn’t until his fifth album “1999” in 1982 that everyone knew his name. The title tune and “Little Red Corvette” are still big airplay tunes.
Two years later came his career crescendo with the movie and soundtrack to “Purple Rain.” He starred in the film that produced five hit singles, “When Doves Cry,” “Let’s Go Crazy,””Purple Rain.” “I Would Die 4 U” and “Take Me with U”
He was a multi-instrumentalists. Some say he could play up to 27 instruments. In concert it was usually the guitar but he would surprise the crowds with his drumming and keyboard chops.
The seven time Grammy winner sold more than 100 million records and won the Academy Award for Best Original Song Score for Purple Rain in 1985. – by John Beaudin
