Corinne Bailey Rae Aiming to Ignore Opinions of Others
January 28, 2010 - It's a natural step for any artist to eventually walk away from ones reputation. After all our reputation is someone else's job, not ours, and, as we all know, reputation sometimes has nothing to do with the truth. Corinne Bailey Rae thinks it's about time that she stopped worrying about the opinions of others. "It's almost like it endangers the expression," says the singer. "But I think it was really good to be following my own instincts on this record. I just want to do it all myself.”

"I really want to be detached from that kind of feedback," Bailey Rae told CanWest News. "We have that audio term feedback. It means the microphone goes wrong because it can hear what the speaker's doing, and you get this really high pitched sound. I think to become conscious of how people interpret your performance is a really wrong thing to do."

Her new album "The Sea" comes four years after her self titled debut and much has happed since then including the death of her husband Jason Rae to drugs. The singer kept a low profile during her mourning which eventually lead to writing and recording the new project. "It's a good reflection of where I am personally," she says. "I don't know if the hopefulness wins out or the heaviness wins out."

Bailey Rae purposely looked for a different slant on the project, "This time the way we recorded was much more like a gig," she says. "It's a way to capture that excitement on the record that you actually get when you play live."

The statement reads, "EMI Records would like to offer its sincere condolences to Corinne Bailey Rae and the Rae family at this tragic time. We ask that the media respects Corinne's privacy and that of her entire family." Jason Rae was a saxophonist with the Haggis Horns, who have performed with Bailey Rae as well as Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson and the band Nightmares on Wax. Bailey Rae is a singer-songwriter and guitarist who released her self-titled debut album two years ago. The record went to number one on the UK charts and sold over a million copies in the US, thanks to the hit single "Put Your Records On." - Kari Graham

Corinne Bailey Rae Ready for Another Album…and some rest
April 15, 2007 - Corinne Bailey Rae say's she has a lot of gratitude towards John Legend. The singer is currently on tour wowing a whole new audience with Legend, a long time supporter. Bailey is loving every second of it; "We are getting a really good response, standing ovations and everything. It's a good match; I think his audience really appreciates what we do. They're quite open-minded." Life is good but Bailey told Billboard Magazine that she's looking forward to some rest, "Over that time I guess I'll start writing and starting to get my head in that mode again, says Rae, "Going from performing all the time and doing lots of promotion to actually being more creative again. I'm really looking forward to writing more. I can't wait for that -- for the next phase of things." The singer has been quoted numerous times about wanting to get a go on her sophomore album. Rae is working the third single "I'd Like To" from her 2006 Capital debut.

Corinne Bailey Rae Loves the Simple Life
April 10, 2007 - She has been called the next Norah Jones and Stevie Wonder is a huge fan but Corinne Bailey Rae claims she's just a simple girl with modest needs in life. The British Singer still lives in her quiet hometown of Leeds, England, "I paid $256,000 for a flat in Leeds and I got flak for it. People think I should buy a castle or something. I can't afford a castle. Says the singer, "Plus, I like being part of a community. Where I live is full of artsy types - women in their 50s who live with cats and draw feminist cartoons in their spare time." Bailey's Video "Trouble Sleeping" debuted on VH1 Soul on March 25,2007. - Kim Simpson
