Corinne Bailey Rae Aiming to Ignore Opinions of Others
January 28, 2010 - It's a natural step for any artist to eventually walk away from ones reputation. After all our reputation is someone else's job, not ours, and, as we all know, reputation sometimes has nothing to do with the truth. Corinne Bailey Rae thinks it's about time that she stopped worrying about the opinions of others. "It's almost like it endangers the expression," says the singer. "But I think it was really good to be following my own instincts on this record. I just want to do it all myself.”

"I really want to be detached from that kind of feedback," Bailey Rae told CanWest News. "We have that audio term feedback. It means the microphone goes wrong because it can hear what the speaker's doing, and you get this really high pitched sound. I think to become conscious of how people interpret your performance is a really wrong thing to do."

Her new album "The Sea" comes four years after her self titled debut and much has happed since then including the death of her husband Jason Rae to drugs. More

Top Jazz Musicians Show David Sanborn Nothing But Love
January 27, 2010 – It’s a love-fest at the Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards. The tributes are pouring in for David Sanborn, this year’s recipient of the George Benson Lifetime Achievement Award. Benson, who won the first honor and has since had the award named after him, was the first to tip his hat to Sanborn, “We both have tremendous identities in the world of Smooth Jazz,” says Benson. “It would be hard to find anyone amongst serious music listeners who does not recognize the name David Sanborn and the great music he plays.  So, I am not surprised that he is being honored as this year's recipient of the George Benson Lifetime Achievement Award.”

Cameron Smith mid-day at Smooth Jazz Now.com says, “David has been a friend and inspiration to me…the fact that he survived  polio as a young boy by spending time in an iron lung and picked up the sax to help build back his strength in his lungs is a just part of his story. His artistic genius, his sense of humor and humility make him a remarkable human being…his lifetime is full of achievement on so many levels.”

Boney James Searches the Net for New Singers
January 25, 2010 – Grammy nominated sax man Boney James has a new mission. Looking forward to his next album James is looking for a few good singers and he plans on using the web to find some new hot talent.

He worked with singer Quinn on his hit album ‘Send One Your Love’ and that created a hunger to possible explore more vocal journeys. “I’m always just trying to match a singer with the song,” Says James, “Since I’m still writing it’s hard to say, but so much is just inspiration. I’ll know it when I hear it.” Let’s remember James has never had an album that flopped so whatever direction his new project takes it’s bound to get tons of attention. More

Rob Tardik Sticks to the Positive Stuff
January 16, 2010 – It’s easy to get negative in a world with too much FOX-News and not enough positive quiet-time. Rob Tardik is well aware of how easily one can become derailed but he had a great foundation, “Having amazing well grounded parents I’m sure helped all the way,” says the guitarist.  Tardik adds, “I have a very close friend and she always say to me when we chat, “It’s a beautiful day in the neighbourhood” and we both die laughing but she is right. I always get up happy in the morning, no drama, and try to be the best person I can everyday.” Rob Tardik dropped by the Smooth Jazz Now studio to chat with Morning Man and Program Director John Beaudin. Review - B.D. Lenz : Hit It and Quit It
November 28, 2009 - Bernard Davidson Lenz (more known as B.D. Lenz) is no ordinary guitarist, as he has a background in mathematics. So when you blend the maths’ logic to that of music, you end up with tracks composed and arranged in a quite precise and structured way. B.D. Lenz’s sixth album, ‘’Hit It and Quit’’ is an interesting project exploring sounds and musical arrangements nurtured by the influences of guitar masters Pat Metheny, Mike Stern (with whom he studied) and Steve Ray Vaughan. The result is a collection of nine original compositions shattering the boundaries of various musical genres and fusing contemporary jazz, rock (Lenz’s earlier influences such as rock luminaries Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix among others), More

Review - Elan Trotman - This Time Around by Kari Graham
September 8, 2009 - Discovering a new artist has its merits. There is nothing wrong with getting another take on great music and my Smooth Jazz collection can always get fatter.

Elan Trotman serves up everything he's learned so far on "This Time Around," and it turns out he's taken lots of notes. Inspired by Arturo Tappin, Grover Washington Jr, and Kirk Whalum, Trotman stays well within the Smooth Jazz boundaries on this, his fourth album.

Interview - In Conversation With Alex Bugnon
September 8, 2009 - Swiss-born musician Alex Bugnon has become a household name and one of the top pianist/keyboardist in Smooth Jazz.

His crafting musical arrangements and beautiful melodies have a touch of Contemporary Jazz, R&B and Gospel. Bugnon should have become a classical pianist, having studied at the Paris Conservatory and the well-known Mozart Academy in Salzburg. However, he turned his back to Mozart and decided to move to the US, becoming the widely acclaimed and talented pianist we know today. Being a Swiss citizen myself, it was a great pleasure to sit down and talk to this talented artist . More

Review – Tim Bowman: Tim Bowman by Akbar Nour
September 6, 2009 - Tim Bowman honours the club of fine Smooth Jazz guitarists with his sophisticated and vibrant playing style again. This elegant self-titled collection, Bowman’s fifth, entails twelve tracks (original compositions and covers). The musician has also some noticed savoir-faire in terms of nicely crafted musical arrangements blending expressive ballads and more bouncy urban jazz tracks. Furthermore, the production work is top notch and the line-up is truly amazing. Expect to hear some Smooth Jazz vets like bassist Mel Brown, guitarist Freddie Fox. More
